Let's Unblur the Lines between Evidence and Anecdotes

We are currently looking for people who can participate and help us unlock discoveries. We are seeking individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Are at least 18 years old AND
  • Experience chronic headaches (15 or more headache days per month for a minimum of 3 months) AND
  • Have used Psychedelics during the period when they have experienced these headaches

Chronic headache, which includes migraine, tension and cluster headaches, is a debilitating condition that affects a significant portion of the global population. Available treatment options do not always provide complete relief and may be associated with side effects. There is growing interest in exploring alternative therapeutic approaches, such as the use of psychedelics, to alleviate the burden of chronic headache.

Psychedelics are demonstrating promising clinical trial results in mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Anecdotal and early observational data in treating chronic headache with some psychedelics is signaling potential effectiveness, and more research is needed.

This study aims to understand how people are using psychedelics to treat chronic headache. By investigating real world use of psychedelics in this context and their effects on headache frequency, severity, and associated symptoms, we seek to contribute to the existing body of knowledge.

What we know so far

Key points about Headaches

  • Headache disorders are very common and represent the leading cause for a person to seek consultation by a neurologist
Headaches affect 1.7-4% of the world's adult population
Severe headaches affect 1/6 of Americans
  • Causes for headaches can be separated into primary and secondary headaches
  • Primary headaches consist of conditions where the headache represents the primary problem and there is no underlying cause (e.g. brain tumor).
  • Examples of primary headaches include: migraine, tension-type and cluster, to name a few
  • Chronic headache is defined as 15 or more headache days per month for at least 3 months in a row
  • Headaches typically vary in intensity and duration and can have mixed features across different types of headaches (e.g. migraine & tension-type)
